“For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed

with our habitation which is from heaven.”

(2 Corinthians 5:2)

Are you fashion conscious? Many are, being constantly bombarded by new and sometimes not so new garments that they just have to have in order to feel that they are trendy and not ‘old fashioned’.

You know there is a fashion that never changes, that never is out of date, that is always ‘in’. This fashion is eternal in its nature and is worn both on the inside and on the outside. In fact, this is a heavenly garment.

We can be clothed with this heavenly garment right now. This garment is not made with physical materials that rot and need repairing and replacing, rather it is made of spiritual qualities that are available only from God. When we come to Him in submission He clothes us with His own Son. Without Christ our spirituality is “as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).

Literally we ‘put on’ Jesus as if He were a garment, as yesterday’s study suggests. God no longer views us in our own normal filthy rags but in this new glorious garment tailored by Jesus Himself—a garment full of righteousness. This garment is intended to be seen. Its purpose is to proclaim the person who is this garment—Jesus Christ. That proclamation is done by what we are, what we do and what we say. “…indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked” or exposed at the judgement seat of Christ (1 Corinthians 5:3,10).

So when you next see the latest fashion being displayed, remember it is but a passing fancy. But the lasting fashion is the very presence of Jesus worn by His followers for all to see.

Prayer

Father in Heaven,

Thank you for the wonderful garment with which you have clothed me. Not the here today gone tomorrow garment of this world but the eternal garment of Jesus Himself. Let my life be a reflection of His righteousness that all who see me will see Him.

Amen
