Surrendering
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
Romans 12:1 (KJV)
In today’s competitive society we are taught to never give up and never give in, so we don’t hear much about surrendering.
If winning is everything, surrendering must be unthinkable. Many today would rather talk about winning, succeeding, overcoming and conquering, rather than yielding, submitting, obeying and surrendering.
Christ, dear friends, was willing to “present his body”, to surrender “HIS ALL” on the cross.
Paul is urging believers to present their bodies, or to offer their lives, as a living sacrifice.
This is our first and greatest service as Christians. We have to live our lives in holiness by doing the will of God, and that means yielding, submitting to, obeying and surrendering to Christ.
He is asking us to give Him our all and to be a living sacrifice. Are we willing to surrender our all to our Lord Jesus Christ? Are we prepared to lay down our lives that we may each have life? There is a scripture which suggests that, if we lose our lives in Him, we gain eternal life. Mark 8:35 (NKJ) reads, “Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it”.
Prayer
Lord, give me the strength to lay down my life for you, and walk in total sacrifice to you. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for surrendering your life for me.
Amen
