Being A Light For Others
“And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand so the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven”.
Matthew 5.15-16 (NCV)
These words of Jesus tell us about the positive impact we can have on others.
If you feed the hungry, people may ask you why.
If you’re very helpful and kind to people, they may ask you why.
If you’re very professional in your work when others aren’t, they may ask you why.
Maybe if all Christians did this then people would stop accusing Christians of being hypocrites. Maybe they would think again about their own beliefs and turn to Jesus.
The example we set in our life when people know we are Christian will affect others’ perceptions of Christianity and of Jesus. Let them see Jesus in us and maybe they’ll want Jesus in them too.
Our good works will never be good enough to save us. Nevertheless our good works may shine as a light towards Jesus as he reveals Himself through us. We live among people who have lost their way and among whom we “shine like stars in the dark world” (Philippians 2:15 NCV).
As Christ reveals the goodness of God through us, we bring life to others.
Prayer
Father please help us to recognise opportunities to do your good works and let you shine your light through us.
Amen
