Have You Found It Yet?

“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
Matthew 6:31-33 NIV

Have you ever found yourself searching for something valuable that you appear to have mislaid or simply can’t find? Maybe your have had to plan a trip at short notice and need your passport urgently. It, however, doesn’t appear to be where you expected it to be and so the frantic search begins. Have you noticed how such a search not only takes full control of our thoughts but utilises all of our available time and energy?

We are interested in nothing else until the search is over and the precious item found.

God wants our seeking after his Kingdom and after his righteousness to consume us in the same way. When it does, all our needs are provided for and all our concerns removed from us. We experience that peace “which transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7 NIV).

God’s Kingdom ushers his will into our minds and drives ours out. His righteousness floods our hearts and drowns out our own vain desires.

When we seek God’s Kingdom in this way, Jesus assures us we will find it. He also tells us that, upon finding it, we discover all the things we could ever need.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7&8 NIV).

Heavenly Father, help us truly to seek your Kingdom and your righteousness with all our hearts and minds and to reach out to those who have yet to hear the Good News that your Kingdom is near at hand.
