Jesus Did More Than Records Show

“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen”
John 21:25 (KJV)

This scripture is not often quoted and probably not many people have come across it before.

We have many of Jesus’ teachings, healings and miracles recorded in the gospels: e.g. “The Lord’s Prayer”; the raising of Jairus’ daughter; his power to still a storm.

Obviously Jesus did much, much more than is recorded in the gospels. In Matthew 4:24 it is recorded “And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.” By this verse we can see that people were coming from afar and not just from the towns and villages in Israel.

When confronted by the suffering people, Jesus’ ministry gives us examples of his compassion and power, glorifying God the Father. Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:36, that we will have to give account for every idle word that we speak. Revelation 20:12 is prophetic and symbolic, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” If all your words and deeds were stored in a book, what kind of a book would you be writing?

Prayer
Loving, merciful God, you have shown us through your word the wonders of your coming kingdom where there will be no more suffering and death. Have mercy on those suffering at this present time, and help sustain them in their trials, and may we look for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen
