Count Your Blessings

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear:”
I John 4:18 (ESV)

This is a fearful time of economic crisis. People fear losing their jobs, not being able to pay their mortgages, not having the money for heating, food and basic necessities.

One of the antidotes to fear can be to COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.

We live in a country where we have the freedoms we take for granted. We can travel freely without a permit. We have free medical care. We have a voice in our government if we so desire. The poor are housed, fed & educated. We have freedom of speech, travel and religion. We are free to worship God.

The Bible tells us that God clothes even the lilies and knows every sparrow. He knows us intimately down to the very hairs on our heads. We can look to God in faith and trust Him to provide for our needs, though not necessarily our wants! Let’s not focus so much on our fears that we forget to thank God for our blessings.

With MONEY you can buy:
A house but not a home
A clock but not time
A bed but not sleep
Sex but not love
A book but not knowledge
Medicine but not good health
A position but not respect
Blood but not LIFE

Help us not to be fearful, Father in Heaven, but to look to you in faith to provide for our needs. Lead us through our ‘valley of the shadow of death’ in peace and safety. Guide our leaders through this present economic crisis and comfort those who find themselves in situations of disaster and loss. We are so thankful that we can trust in your love to cast out the fears that so easily distress us.
