Open Another Door Today

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him and he with Me.”
Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)

This Scripture is understood to mean that Jesus is knocking at our heart’s door and, if we will open the door, He is ready and willing to come into our lives, but the analogy can be expanded.

We tend to compartmentalise our lives, such as work, home, church, etc. and we can, so easily, do that spiritually as well. It is like having a separate room for different functions. At home we have sitting rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Some of us are even fortunate enough to have ‘garden rooms’. Each one is usually entered through a door. Some we shut when we have visitors, as some rooms are personal or filled with things which we have quickly hidden away to make the rest look tidy. It is a way of saying that visitors are not welcome to enter those rooms.

Do we open the front door of our hearts to Jesus with welcoming smiles while keeping some doors shut tight? We’re likely to find Jesus knocking on the door of our personal space and on the door of our messy space. There is no room in our hearts or minds with which and in which Jesus doesn’t want to enter and live. He’ll even share our personal moments and help clear out any mess. Why not let Him in through another door? Just as we wouldn’t shut a door in the face of our spouse, don’t let us shut a door on Jesus. He is our spiritual husband after all.

Prayer
Dear Father, please help us to trust You more each day, so that we are willing to open up every room in our hearts and minds for Jesus to be at home in. Thank You.
Amen
