It Is Not A ‘Now’ World

“Therefore be patient, brethren….See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient.”
James 5:7-8 (NKJV)

What a hurried world we live in. Everyone wants to have everything yesterday. There seems to be little willingness to work toward something in the future – it’s all now, now, now.

Very quickly we realise life is not like this. This world by its very nature is measured and timely and things just don’t happen all at once. When we realise this, it can remove some of the unnecessary urgency and life can take on a more relaxed pace.

Stress is a common problem these days and it is not surprising. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Let’s take a lesson from the farmer. No matter how much he runs around wielding all kinds of expensive equipment he cannot hurry the rains necessary for the ripening of his crops. He has to let the seasons take their time, and take their time they will. It is the same with us. We too have to allow the right amount of time for our plans to come to fruition. If we don’t, like the farmer we will get an inferior crop. That may mean paying too much for something, with interest and charges. It may mean worrying about overdrafts or credit card charges and the stress that accompanies these, or simply getting something too quickly or easily and not appreciating it as we should.

Let’s learn the lesson of the farmer and live life at the pace it should be lived at.

Father in heaven grant me the patience to live life as it was intended, taking a lesson from the seasons of the year that governs the very sustenance of my life.
