It’s How You Handle It That Counts

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 (KJV)

Sometimes we forget the last half of our favourite verse quoted above–especially the ‘according to His purpose’ part. We just remember the ‘for good’ bit.

It reminds me of a story I heard about the young lady who had a terrible day and came home in tears. Her mother offered her a piece of cake, which she accepted happily. But instead of cake on the plate, the mother gave her two raw eggs, a cup of flour, a teaspoon of baking powder and some sugar. She then explained to her hurting daughter that life can be like that–the ingredients that go into making a beautiful character are not always the beautiful and pleasant experiences.

We can trust God that the bad, as well as the good things that we experience, will work together for good in the long run, even when they do not seem so good at the time.

A lecture I heard years ago encouraged us to turn Problems into Possibilities, which leads to AHA–Advancing Heart Awareness. The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just MAKE the best of everything!

Because, you see, it’s not what happens in this life, but how you handle it, that counts.

Prayer
God, help me to take the good with the bad, and not to be constantly complaining and crying when things don’t go right. Help me to make lemonade with the lemons instead of being a sourpuss!
Amen
