Death And Taxes
“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them.'”
Revelation 14:13 (NIV)
It has been said that two things in life are absolutely certain, death and taxes! Some people try to avoid paying tax. However, Jesus discourages tax avoidance when He said “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s” (Mark 12:17). If we want the privilege of living in a particular country, then taxes are inevitable.
Death is also inevitable: “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
We just do not know when death will come knocking on our door, which means that we cannot take our physical lives for granted.
Every time we travel in man-made vehicles, our lives are at risk. We also have to be careful when crossing the road!
Death can also come as a result of war, crime, disease, natural disasters, natural causes and accidents.
Death is an enemy, which Christ has conquered on our behalf. “For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death” (1 Corinthians 15:25-26).
Christ in us is the hope of glory. As Christ is in us and we are in Him, we need have no fear of death because “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”
Prayer
Father in heaven, thank you for the life that you have given to me and the protection that you have granted to me during my time here on earth. Help me to always trust and rely on you.
Amen
