Trust In The Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding”
Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)

This wise advice was given by King Solomon to his son. Mankind desires to be self sufficient, to not have need of anything or anyone else. Of course, this is not possible; no man is an island. So we either try to go it alone or we are forced to seek help and advice from others.

This is exactly what Solomon recognised, and counselled his son to seek God as his helper and advisor. God is always there, eager to guide us. His Word is at our fingertips. But the decision to look to Him lies with us.

Solomon goes on to write. “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” The knowledge, understanding and wisdom we need properly to live this life is available for us if we will only take the time to look.

God is not there for us just when times get tough; he is there for us all the time. We can seek his direction in all aspects of our lives. Daily study of his word will equip us to lean on him and not on our own understanding.

The story of Solomon is a sad one. For someone who possessed all this wisdom he chose to walk a different path, led astray by the temptations of life. It does not have to be so for us. We can benefit from this huge store of instruction and choose to live by it, reaping and enjoying the benefits that could have been his.

Prayer
Our Father in heaven, thank you that you have provided me with such wonderful knowledge. Grant me understanding and wisdom that I might choose to do the things you have taught me.
Amen
