God’s Name

“For there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12 (NIV)

In the Bible a person’s name stands for his character and most of us probably know what our name means. But there is one name that stands out through all and which will never be changed. There is no other name that is so well known. It is the most special name in the world but not everyone knows it yet, although we know they will. Jesus is that name and the only name by which we can be saved.

Psalm 34:3 says, “O magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together.” But instead, people use his name as a curse word in vulgar conversation, and in doing so they break one of the Ten Commandments. “You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain (that is, lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely); for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.” (Exodus 20:7 Amplified Version).

Psalm 29:2 says, “Give to the Lord the glory due to his name,” and Revelation 22:4 adds “They shall see His face and His name shall be on their foreheads.”

Actually we do in a way bear His name now-we are called Christians. Let’s make sure “we give unto the Lord the glory due to His name.”

Prayer
Father, please help me not to dishonour your name, but to live so as to give you praise by my words and life.
Amen
