Damage Control

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Psalm 103: 2-5 (NKJV)

These very poetic opening verses to this psalm capture the total redemptive work of God. It makes clear that there is nothing that God cannot put right for you and ultimately will.

Many today suffer in torment believing that they are lost in their circumstances, that there is no hope, there is no way out. They are bedevilled with feelings of despair and resignation.

The truth is that God’s hand is outstretched offering all the help that we need. He stands constantly ready to relieve the burden, indeed to share the burden with us.

The psalm goes on to say, “The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed…. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy…. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his mercy towards those who fear him;… As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him. For he knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.” (verses 6, 8, 11, 13, 14).

This is the God who knows everything about us, our every need, and who yearns to redeem us, indeed, to repair us. There is nothing so damaged that it cannot be repaired by Almighty God.  All that needs to be done is to turn to him and allow him to do it.

Don’t let the moment pass. There is no need to carry on alone when God is waiting to walk with us and to work in us.

Prayer

Our Father in heaven, I want to turn to you and to receive the wonderful help that you are waiting to give me. You know my every need, you know where I am broken and need repair; let me trust in you and enjoy the rest and peace that your presence in my life will provide.

Amen
