A Fool And God

“The fool says in his heart, ‘there is no God’.”

Psalm 14:1 and 53:1 (NIV)

 Twice in Psalms we are told that it is the fool who says there is no God. 

Perhaps we think that it takes more than the human mind to determine that there is more to this life than blind chance?  However, these verses indicate that it is well within our powers to look around, and have a choice as to whether we believe in a Deity, a mind and elegance behind all we see around us and out in space. 

But the Bible tells us that to believe in the reality of Jesus Christ as both God and man in one being takes inspiration and revelation.  Matthew 16.13-17 clearly indicates that this further step in recognising Jesus as God in the flesh is not of human resolution.  The nature of Jesus is so central to our lives that God has reserved to Himself the revealing of this truth. 

Speaking to Peter, Christ answered his accurate statement that ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God’ with the response ‘Flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but My Father which is in Heaven.’  If so for Peter, so for us.  In other words if we accept and believe Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God and not ‘just a fine man’, then that knowledge has come from God Himself. There is no way we could have worked it out for ourselves! 

If we have any doubts as to the vital truth of the nature of Jesus, then we should pray that God would reveal this to us as he did to Peter.

And He will! 

Prayer

Please help us to be humble and accept that there are many things in this life that we can’t resolve without your aid.  May we be inspired to understand with Peter that Jesus Christ was indeed both fully human and fully divine, and because of this is fully able to be our complete Saviour both in this life and the life to come.
