Are You A Worker?

Jesus said:  “My Father is always working and so am I.”

John 5:17 (NLT)

Have you ever wondered what does God do all day?  He works.  He is particularly busy in working with people.  When Jesus came to earth, He came as a worker.  For most of his adult life he worked as a carpenter, and He said in John 3:36 that his teaching and miracles were works given to him by the Father.

Psalm 37 in the New Living Translation puts it this way in verse 18:  “Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever.”   “The Lord directs the steps of the godly.  He delights in every detail of their lives.  Though they stumble they will never fall for the Lord holds them by the hand.”  (Verses 23-24)

We are not just called to work for God; we are called to work with God.  He tells us the work He wants us to do and how to do it.  “It is He who saved us and chose us for His holy work, not because we deserved it but because it was His plan.”  (2 timothy 1:9 LB)

God uses scripture to prepare and equip his people to do every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17)  “The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose.  And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.  For we are both God’s workers.”  (1 Corinthians 3:8-9 NLT)

 Prayer

Thank you Father, for your word, the scriptures, which tell us the work you want us to do.  I want to be a worker with you.  Please help me to see the opportunities all around me and be quick to act.

Amen
