Our Father, God

“I will be a Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV) 

Throughout the Old Testament God is referred to as a father.  “I am Israel’s father.” (Jeremiah 31:9). 

All of us have had a father at some time, and most of us spent the first years of our lives with them.  If we had a happy childhood we probably had a good father who was always there to help, just like God is our spiritual father and is also always there to help. (Proverbs 4:1). 

“…When the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.  God sent Him to buy freedom for us so that He could adopt us as His very own children – and because we are His children, God has sent the spirit of His Son into our hearts prompting us to call out ‘Abba Father’. Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.”  (Galatians 4:4-7 NLT). 

The fatherhood of God tells us what He is like, not just what He does; and He will never fail or abandon us.  (Hebrews 13:5 NLT). 

“For all who believed him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.”  (John 1:12 NLT).  Is your father’s name written on your forehead?  (Revelation 14:1). 

The best father guides his children into choosing right things.  God is like a wonderful, loving father and He says:  ‘Choose life.’ (Deuteronomy 30:19). 

“One God and Father of all, Who is over all and through all and in you all.”  (Ephesians 4:6).  Everyone is included but not everyone knows it yet. 

“After all, when we were children we had fathers who corrected us and we respected them for it. Can we not much more readily submit to the discipline of the Father of men’s souls and learn how to live?” (Hebrews 12:9 Phillips). 

Prayer

Thank you Father for adopting me into your family.  I want to walk with you and talk with you.  I want to always be in your presence and do the things you do; for I know I can trust you and you are always there for me.
