His Blood Availed For Me!
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Matthew 26:28 (TNIV)
As I came along the last row I was horrified to realise we were running out (of wine)! There should have been enough. But due to some unexpected last minute arrivals I found myself “one glass short of a communion” literally!
There was no more wine left, as we had used up the bottle we had. I sat down without a glass of wine in my hand feeling rather apprehensive. “Was this some kind of warning message?”, I thought, but I reassured myself that this was only a symbolic act, a physical ritual etc.
I got up and collected the used wine glasses and brought the silver tray back to the communal table. Just as I placed it down I noticed a small drop of wine, like a bloodstain, on the tray itself. Instinctively, I dabbed my finger in this stain and licked it gratefully. It reminded me of how great was the sacrifice that was paid and how precious was the saviour’s blood that was spilled, even the smallest drop, and that Jesus offered us all of it, even unto death.
I was reminded of the words of the song:
“He breaks the pow’r of cancelled sin; He sets the pris’ner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood availed for me.”
Prayer
Dear Father, help us to realise that we desperately need the saving blood of your Son, Jesus Christ, and that His blood is so precious that even the tiniest molecule of His blood is more than enough to wipe away all the sins of all mankind.
Amen
