Our Final Authority

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,  for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)

This world’s order of things is unsure and indefinite. Desperate words of uncertainty are crying out daily from radio, television, and newspapers. Sometimes it seems that everything around us is in turmoil.  But, praise God, we as believers in Jesus have something we can always depend on—the unchanging Word of God!

God has no double standard. He doesn’t say one thing today and something else tomorrow. He is the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8)

When we make the Word of God the final authority in our lives, it will give us stability when everything else around us gives way.  When we let God’s Word settle the issues of life, we can be confident when others are confused, peaceful when others are under pressure. We will be overcoming when others are being overcome!

What does it mean to make God’s Word the final authority? It means believing what He says instead of believing what people say. It means believing what He says instead of what Satan broadcasts. It means believing what the Bible says instead of what circumstances say.

When we decide to take God at His word, and live by faith, not by sight, there is nothing in this unstable world that can steal our security from us!  2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”  When Jesus starts a work in us He will always finish it when we depend on Him to do the work through the power of the Holy Spirit!  (Philippians 1:6)

So let us be “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”  (Hebrews 12:2)  He is the final authority.  Jesus will never let us down!!

Father God, please help us to look to your Word as the final authority in our lives.  We realize that we are safe in the arms of Jesus and that there is no need to fear what the future may bring.
