“Now you are Christ’s body and individual parts of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 (ISV)

I can attest to the whole body suffering when one part suffers. Having had cancer in one part, the whole body suffered when the treatment was administered! Even those who have had less experience of such things know that when we stub our toe badly it seems the whole body responds.  Or when someone goes through a trial of any sort the whole family is affected.

Just as each part of our body may have to stop what it’s doing, to bear with the part which is hurting, we as part of the body of Christ need to take time out  to bear with those who are going through tough times (Colossians 3:13). It might be making time to write a card, make a phone call, visit, do some odd jobs or all manner of things (Matthew 25:36). I was much blessed with cards and visits, for which I thanked God, as it surely did help me to keep going.

Again, my own illness and people’s various responses to it has been a reminder to me of the need to be aware of those around me in my neighbourhood (Luke 10:30-37), my family (1Timothy 5:8) and in my church family (Galatians 6:10).

Doesn’t God work in wonderful ways? “They sang the song of God’s servant Moses and the song of the lamb: ‘Your deeds are spectacular and amazing, Lord God Almighty. Your ways are just and true, King of the nations.’” (Revelation 15:3)

Thank you, Father, for using so many things which happen in our lives to mould us, to teach us and to remind us. Please help us to remember to keep an eye open for opportunities to serve within the body of Christ, especially when one member is hurting in some way. Thank You.
