Nothing Can Put Out The Light

“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:5 (NKJV)

Whenever things around us get dark and we begin to  feel overwhelmed by the situation that we are in, we always need to remember that we have the light of the world living in us and that nothing is able to put that light out! Even when we are at our weakest, even when we feel that the light within us is small, the darkness is no match for us!

Imagine for a moment that we are in a large auditorium that has no windows or doors to let in the outside light. The place is so black we cannot see anything, not even our hand in front of our face. There is nothing around us but complete darkness!

Now imagine one little lightning bug flying around that auditorium. Every eye in there would turn toward it. As small as that little light is in comparison to the great darkness around it, we would still be able to see it. That massive blackness wouldn’t  be able to do a thing to shut off that bug. Everywhere it flew, the darkness would just have to yield. It would always be dispelled by its light.

When the circumstances around us begin to get black and we are tempted to despair, we need to think about that lightning bug. Meditate on the fact that Jesus Christ, the Light of the world is in us and is shining through us.

When we really begin to comprehend this we will never again let the darkness back us into a corner. We will start chasing it down, overcoming it with the light that nothing can put out.

Father God help us to comprehend that we can always depend on Jesus’ light shining through us, and that the darkness always has to give way to the light.
