Christmas and Children
“…went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to…Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David…to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Luke 2:4-7 (NKJV)
This Christmas, many parents will see their children or grandchildren re-enacting the Nativity Story. The children will delight and entertain with their enthusiasm as they portray this wonderful miraculous event in history.
Christmas remains a beautiful time in the Christian calendar and, as such, it is important that we pass on the Good News of our Saviour’s birth to our children and grandchildren. He came as a human baby to live and die for our sins so that we can live and not die (John 3:16-17).
We need to remind and teach them that Christmas is not all about Christmas trees, presents, parties and food. At its core, it is about Jesus, the Son of God who became one of us, died for us, and who one day will come back to earth as King of kings and Lord of lords to establish peace and goodwill toward all people.
This year may you and your family celebrate a wonderful Christmas!
Prayer
The nativity story is good news for everyone, and we give thanks for Jesus, the Christ, especially at this time of the year.
Amen
