As White As Freshly Fallen Snow!
“But if we are living in the light of God’s presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin.”
1 John 1:7 (Living Bible)
Have you noticed just how many stain removers there are on the market? We have cleaning agents which will remove specific stains—ink, paint, wine, grass, tea, coffee, and on and on they go. This is really handy, so all we have to do is identify the particular stain and buy the cleanser that will remove it. Trouble is that over the years we could end up with 20 or 30 different products for different spots—wouldn’t it be great if we had just one solution for every spot and blemish?
Well, surprise, surprise, we do spiritually—we do have one solution for the removal of all our spiritual spots and stains—something that cleanses better than any other, and it isn’t the blood of bulls and goats, but the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 9: 12).
It doesn’t matter how black the stain is, it doesn’t matter how long ago it happened or how ingrained it is, it doesn’t matter how difficult we think it might be to remove, every stain is removed thoroughly and completely. In fact our Father reassures us that; “No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can take it out and make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are as stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18). Isn’t that encouraging? One solution, one cleansing, one renewal to a pristine condition; just for the asking!
In his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul also promotes this amazing “spiritual stain remover”—notice what he says: “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5: 26-27 NIV). Here’s what it says on the tin; “Can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow” and that’s what the blood of Jesus does!
We can cry out to our Father as King David did in Psalm 51, “O loving and kind God, have mercy. Have pity upon me and take away the awful stain of my transgressions. Oh, wash me, cleanse me from this guilt. Let me be pure again.”(Verses 1-2). Again, in verse 7 he cries out, “Sprinkle me with the cleansing blood and I shall be clean again. Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.” And as you know—that’s really pure.
Prayer
Father, thank you that in Jesus you have given us the solution to all the stains and blemishes that mar our lives. We know that no matter how tainted we are, you can remove it all and make us as white as snow.
Amen
