Torment And Dean
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]”
John 16:33 (AMP)
There was quite a bit of optimism around in the 80’s when Torvill and Dean brought joy to the world through their ice-skating artistry. But, as is often the case, the road to stardom for Christopher Dean had not been an easy one. A conventional upbringing until age six changed overnight when his Mum left home and his Dad brought in his new partner on the same day. Ironically it was his ‘stepmother’ who introduced Christopher to ice-skating, and out of an extremely unhappy and awkward situation Christopher used his own resources—determination amongst them, to forge a successful life and career once he met Jayne. Bitterness was not part of his character as he tried to keep his relationship going with both parents even though the effort was not reciprocated. When the going got tough, this tough child got going!
We may face many trials in this life but we have many examples to inspire and encourage us to overcome our difficulties and live a Christian life despite what others do to us and whatever circumstances we face. Jesus overcame so that he can give us perfect peace and confidence.
Prayer
Lots of children in this world have a difficult start. Please help them to move forward.
Amen
