Secrets

“For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.”
Mark 4:22 (NKJV)

Hilary Clinton has just announced her intention to run for President of the United States. One interview asked her about secrets. We all have them, and we want to protect them. Politicians hide them, religious leaders defend them, and sporting organisations have secret votes. People feel they have a right to know the details of private lives, and journalists leak sensational stories in the name of freedom.

The Bible tells us that all secrets will be exposed. “Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?…Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord (Jeremiah 23:24 NIV UK). King David wrote in Psalm 69:5, “O God, You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from you.” But in verse 16 he cries, “Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.”

We cannot hide anything from God. This is a scary concept…do I mean that nothing is hidden from God? Yes. This, however, is not a threatening idea. It is liberating. A doctor, if he or she has all the details of our condition, can make a better plan for care and recovery. The more God knows us, the more he can and does restore us.

So, the next time you have secrets or try to hide something, remember: God knows.

And, because God knows, he can help us more.

Prayer
Almighty God, you know our hearts and you know our secrets. Help us to face and deal with those secret things that hinder us in our Christian lives. In your loving mercy forgive and cleanse and heal us.
Amen
