A Unique Wedding Ceremony

“Then the angel said to me, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ And he added, ‘These are the true words of God.’”
Revelation 19:9 (NIVUK)

Most weddings are unique and special to those who are participating, especially to the bride and groom. Whether it is royalty, famous people or ordinary people, everyone puts on their best clothes for the event. With the feasting, music, dancing and speeches, it is usually a very enjoyable event. Not easily forgotten.

The followers of Jesus are anticipating a royal wedding that will surpass in splendour and significance all weddings that have ever taken place. It will be royal because Jesus is a king, as we read in 1 Timothy 6:15: “which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.”

The bride of Christ is the church, composed of people who are carefully selected and chosen by God Himself. John 15:16 says, “You did not choose me but I chose you …” Jesus is the Son whom the Father loves. “ He received honour and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (2 Peter 1:17)

Even the very bride of Christ will be royal! We read in 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

What an amazing event and inheritance for those who are the followers of Christ. Nothing will surpass it. The splendour and glory will be unbelievable. The marriage of the Lamb is an event to come that we do not want to miss out on. There will never be another event like it! We are encouraged to take this calling seriously in 2 Peter 1:10-11, “Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Every time you attend a wedding ceremony or witness a royal wedding, focus your thoughts on the wedding to come: that of Jesus Christ and his bride. We share this heavenly calling with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world. (Hebrews 3:1).

Prayer
Father in heaven, through your Spirit please enable us, your people who live on earth today, to be ready as the very bride of Christ. In Jesus’s name we pray.
Amen
