Two Sparrows
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will….Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10:29, 31 (NKJV)
Have you ever seen sparrows falling on the ground? I have—a rare occurance. One day as I was relaxing in my lounge, I heard a thud on my glass window and saw a sparrow falling on the ground. For a moment there was no movement. My wife who saw it from the kitchen window, went out with pieces of bread to feed the motionless sparrow, but there was no reaction. After a while it began to drizzle, which may have revived the sparrow from the shock because when we looked for it, it was gone. This was a great relief for us to find that it was alive.
A few weeks later I heard the thud again and witnessed another sparrow falling on the ground. Fortunately it was not hurt seriously. I was fascinated by this little sparrow as it fluttered its wings, looked this and that way, and flew away as if nothing had happened. My Bible was on the table. I opened it to look at the scriptures quoted above and was amazed to realize that God is indeed concerned for all His creatures, even the small sparrows. From watching these sparrows falling on the ground before my very eyes I am made aware of God watching over us to protect us, lest we fall.
If God is so much concerned about the little sparrows, how much greater concern has He for human beings who are created in His own image and likeness? He loves us all without measure, beyond our imagination. What kind of love has He bestowed upon mankind? John 17:23 says, “I in them, and You in me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” Later in 1 John 3:1-2 John exclaims, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
God in His Eternal counsel purposed to share His glory with His children, as we read in Isaiah 43:7. “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” He has begun the work transforming you and me into the image of His Son, and he will complete it (Philippians 1:6). “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
What worth are sparrows compared to the glorious future we are going to have? There is no comparison. Hallelujah! Praise God Almighty!
Prayer
Father in heaven, worthy are you to be praised for your purpose to share your glory with us. Help us to rejoice with joy inexpressible. I love you and thank You in Jesus name.
Amen
