The Importance Of Controlling Our Thoughts

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)

Our minds control our brains and our emotions. Medical science tells us that if we think negative thoughts for over ten minutes, negative trees grow in our brains, which have a negative effect on our emotions and our whole body.  If negative thoughts are left unchecked they can harm our physical and mental health!  The Bible confirms the scientific findings, such as the verse in Proverbs 14:30 which says, “A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.”

When we think on positive things for over ten minutes positive trees grow in our brains which have a positive effect on our emotions and is beneficial to our health! Also confirmed in such scriptures as Proverbs 15:30, “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy.”

It is very important that we always remember this. Satan will try to get us to think about negative things because he wants us to keep our minds on our problems and not on Jesus.  Remember then the verses in Proverbs 3:7-8, “Fear the LORD and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”

We are told to cast all our care upon Jesus (1 Peter 5:7) and when we fully depend on Jesus He will help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to bring “every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5) and control the way that we think.

Prayer
Father God, help us to realize the importance of casting all our care upon Jesus and depending on His power to control our thoughts.
Amen
