God’s Masterpiece

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

The Greek word Poiema; translated “masterpiece” in the above scripture is actually the word for “poem.” We are God’s poetry in motion. We are his masterpiece, expressing the depths of his loving and creative heart. He has created each of us for a purpose, and that amazing purpose is to reflect his glory, to demonstrate his love, mercy, kindness, forgiveness and service to others. As you know, great masterpieces are exhibited in museums and in stately homes, they are on display for everyone to see and appreciate. This is our reason for being; the very purpose for our lives is to allow the Spirit of God to work through us to produce an amazing exhibition of his character and nature. A lady called Nathalie Sarraute once wrote; “Poetry makes the invisible, visible!” That’s what Christians do; they make the invisible God visible! You will have noticed that the scripture above tells us that He has “Created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” His plans for us go way back before he created this earth, notice—“Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:4-5) Imagine—adopted into the family of God, isn’t that incredible? And because of this new birth we inherit the family characteristics and nature—the mind of Christ no less, (Philippians 2:5 NKJV). I’m sure that you have looked at children and remarked, “He is just like his father or she is the very image of her mother” it is the same with the God family—we develop the mind of our elder brother Jesus. The Apostle Peter drove this nail fully home when he wrote, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a nation different from all other nations, a people designed by God to be his own, and it is your task to proclaim the noble deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9 Barclay, italics mine). So, come on, let’s all be bold and exhibit this amazing masterpiece!

Prayer Holy Father, we are indeed your masterpiece, not through anything that we have done but because of your mercy toward us. May we always shine your light on others and be a reflection of you. Amen
