W.I.J.D.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6 (NIVUK)

The acronym W.W.J.D. is well known throughout the western world. It means: What Would Jesus Do? The original question has been taken seriously by millions of Christian teenagers who have worn it over the last several years as a reminder to live their life in the right way.

A highly respected theologian (Dr. Gary Deddo) wrote that the acronym should really be: W.I.J.D. What Is Jesus Doing? Yes, what is Jesus doing in your life, in my life and in the lives of every human being who has ever lived, is living today and will live tomorrow?

Jesus, along with the Father and the Spirit, is doing something very special in our lives, which God planned before the creation of the universe. “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…’” (Genesis 1:26). God is making us into the very image, likeness, character of Jesus Christ. That is an amazing creation to accomplish, something that only Jesus can do. It meant that he had to join himself with our humanity. Of course, it also meant sacrificing his life so that we, fallen creatures, can be saved.

So it is not a matter of what would Jesus do? It is all about what he is doing in our lives today. His very image is being formed in us now! We are included in the relationship he has with the Father and the Spirit and called to participate in his amazing and exciting work, (1 Corinthians 1:9) which he started and promised to complete, (reference the anchor scripture above).

“My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,” (Galatians 4:19). What is Jesus doing? Along with the Father and the Spirit, he is transforming you, me and eventually, hopefully the rest of humanity into his very image and likeness, the children of God. The work he started even before the earth was created. How exciting, amazing and wonderful.

Prayer
Father in heaven, thank you for the amazing work that Jesus, by the Spirit, is doing—forming his very image in me. Please enable me to yield to him as he completes his work in me. In his name I pray.
Amen
