Waiting For The Expected Sunrise

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
Psalm 30:5 (NKJV)

As Timothy Peake looks down on us from the International Space Station, he and the other five astronauts/cosmonauts on Expedition 46 witness about 15 sunrises and 15 sunsets every single day.

That’s because ISS orbits about 220 miles above the earth and travelling at nearly five miles every second (17,200 mph) takes only about 90 minutes to circle us once. So, roughly every 45 minutes the crew see a sunrise or a sunset occurring over the different parts of our planet.

Although separated from earthly global conflicts, the astronauts will often be passing over far more wars than at any other time in space history, with those 15 daily orbits perhaps serving to only rub in the horrors despite the staggering beauty of our home as seen from such distance.

The weeping spoken of in Psalm 30:5 is indeed the order of the day on much of Planet Earth, but at this time of year the dark nights of 2015 are now history.

Christians will have to be patient and wait a little longer for the utter certainty of the Joy in the Morning to come, when earthly wars and vicious disputes will be consigned to just a fading memory.

It’s said that if we forget the past we are blind in one eye, but if we live in the past then we are blind in both.

So we don’t forget, with weeping, the disasters that our Planet is enduring; but we do look with joy for that Glorious Morning, far more beautiful than even the crew of ISS see so frequently from so high—the time when armed factions will be no more and Earth’s wars will be just bad memories.

Prayer
We thank you so much for the gift of Joy. It helps us see through the fog of all the distress that is happening now, and it gives us the trust that You will have your Glorious Way of life and abundance for all humanity when Your time is right.
Amen
