Answered Prayer
part 1 –
Thy Will Be Done

“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
Colossians 1:9 (NKJV)

God is calling humanity into a love relationship with himself. God is love. And we are being called into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. (1 John 4:8, 16; 1 Corinthians 1:9). Prayer is a vital activity in this relationship. We can be more effective in our prayer life by applying some biblical principles. One of those principles is praying in accordance with God’s will. When Jesus was on earth in person, he set us an example by always seeking his Father’s will: “Not my will, but yours be done” and “your kingdom come, your will be done” (Luke 22:42; Matthew 6:10). So as we pray, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). The Bible has many examples of what is God’s will. Here are some of them:

  1. To hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6).
    2. To humble oneself under the mighty hand of God (2 Chronicles 7:14).
    3. To trust in Jesus completely (Proverbs 3:5).
    4. To be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)
    5. To seek his kingdom and righteousness first (Matthew 6:33).
    6. To grow in His grace and knowledge (2 Peter 3:18).
    7. To love God with all your heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37).
    8. To love your neighbour as yourself (Matthew 22:39).

I am sure that you can add many more to these. God’s will for us is perfect, so let’s ask and seek for it to be done.

Father in heaven, let your will be accomplished in my life, so that I am an effective instrument in your hands for the purpose of glorifying you and doing your will. In Jesus’ name I pray.
