A Time For Every Purpose

“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NKJV)

It is good to reflect on the inevitable fact in the life of everyone who is born. It is a time to do so: “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement” (Hebrews 9:27). Death was the consequence of the sin of Adam, who passed on death to all. Romans 5:12 tells us, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—”

To talk about death is not very pleasant. Everyone wants to avoid it. However, the fact is that we hear of death caused through the conflicts, wars, accidents and natural disasters everyday and cannot avoid it because the media is full of it. It is bad news. But the good news is that Jesus Christ, the second Adam, took upon Himself the human flesh and died on the cross on our behalf to save us (Romans 5:17-21). It is God who gives life through His son, Jesus. “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14-15)

There is a lot of grief and pain and loss we experience when a loved one dies. Death indeed is our enemy, but our Saviour has won the victory over death and the Devil and has destroyed the works of the Devil. Psalm 116:15 says “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” And Isaiah 57:1 follows on “That the righteous is taken away from the evil.” And finally in Revelation 14:13, “For blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…that they may rest from their labours, and their works follow them.”

There is a time coming when there will be no more death or sorrow or pain, for the former things will pass away (Revelation 21:4). For me it is a time to rejoice and I say again rejoice in the Lord always for our salvation is assured in Jesus Christ our Lord and Master. I am looking forward to the coming of the Lord who will resurrect us from the grave and those who are alive to meet Him in the cloud and we will be with Him forever and ever. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

Abba Father, I thank You for Your Words of life giving us comfort and assurance of eternal life through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who for the joy set before Him died on our behalf. Blessed be our Redeemer in whose name I praise You and give thanks always.
