Spirit Of Power

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

This is the promised Holy Spirit, the power from on high, that the Father sent on the day of Pentecost (Luke 24:49). On this Day, the Holy Spirit empowered the Apostle Peter to deliver one of the most powerful sermons that was ever preached. He spoke without fear about Jesus Christ and Him crucified; taken by evil men as it was ordained by God before the foundation of the world, and raised from the dead. This same Apostle was so fearful and timid that he denied Jesus three times with cursing and swearing only a month earlier. On this Day of Pentecost a great miracle took place, so awesome that when people heard that they were responsible for crucifying Jesus the Messiah, they were cut to their hearts and 3000 souls were convicted of sins and were baptized. Thus the foundation of the Church was laid. Just as Jesus said—He would build His Church (Matthew 16:18). Indeed! It is through accepting Jesus as our Saviour that we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and forgiveness of our sins (Act 2:38).

Like our human parents who give us good gifts, our Father in heaven wants to give us this most precious gift of the Holy Spirit to those who would ask Him (Luke 11:13). The Father has given His Son the Spirit without measure. John 3:34-35 says, “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.” Jesus Christ performed mighty miracles of raising the dead, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, making deaf to hear and casting the demons by the same Spirit. Can we comprehend that it is the same Holy Spirit God has given us, who are baptized into one body and all have been made to drink into this one Spirit ? (1 Corinthians 12:13).

This is knowledge too wonderful to grasp: God giving us this powerful Holy Spirit to enable us to live a Godly life in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Master, and walk in His steps. For we are a new creation in Christ quickened by the Spirit to sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Prayer
Father, thank You for reminding us of the great Day of Pentecost on which You sent Your Holy Spirit, by Your grace. I praise You in Jesus’ name.
Amen
