Making Everything New

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIVUK)

If you belong to Christ, then according to the Bible, you are a new creation. Being a new creation in Christ is not dependent on how you feel. With our struggles in this life, the tears, pains and sorrows, we do not feel like a new creation. We sometimes feel like a barely-hanging-on-by-our fingertips creation!

The good news is that being a new creation in Christ is not dependent on how we feel. It is a matter of faith. “For we live by faith, not by sight (or our feelings)” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Being God’s new creation, we eagerly await a new heaven and a new earth. “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:13). We may be saddened by the condition of the present world in which we live today. The political uncertainties, the proliferation of mass destruction weapons, the continuous conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, the suffering of children, criminal activities etc.

But there is real hope for our world. “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband…He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true'” (Revelation 21:2, 4-5).

God promised that he will MAKE EVERYTHING NEW! He has already started to fulfil that promise with those who believe in him! We are his new creation, whether we feel like it or not. Our present world may appear to be permanent, but it is temporary, “passing away”. (1 Corinthians 7:31). There is an exciting and glorious future for humanity, made possible by the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for coming to rescue us and to save us from the consequences of deception. We look forward to the new heaven and new earth that you will bring with you at your return.

Amen
