The promises of God

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (ESV)

The Bible contains many promises that are given by God. One of the most well known promises in the Bible is God’s promise never to destroy all life on earth by means of a flood. “I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” (Genesis 9:11). And we have a permanent reminder that God keeps his promises when we see a rainbow!

A very encouraging promise is found in Philippians 1:6, ‘And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.’ The reason that we can have complete confidence in all of God’s promises is that it is impossible for God to lie. He is the Creator and sustainer of all life, and there is nothing that is too difficult or too hard for God to do. “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?”(Jeremiah 32:27).

One of the most amazing promises in the Bible is contained in John 14:13-14 where Jesus says, “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” This is a mind boggling promise. Jesus will do whatever we ask the Father in his name. Of course, Jesus will not do anything that is contrary to the Father’s will. He has already made that very clear.

How amazing it is that we can get down on our knees to pray knowing that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’s name will be accomplished for us, however we must make sure that we are praying within the context of the Father’s will, as Jesus will only do the Father’s will. There are many things that we can request which are well within the parameters of God’s will and we can confidently request them knowing that our prayers will be answered in accordance with God’s perfect timing and will.

Eternal Father, thank you for the wonderful promises in your written word, The Holy Bible. Please grant to me the gift of faith to believe in your promises. Amen
