Is there life after death?

“If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes. You shall call, and I will answer You; You shall desire the work of Your hands.”
Job 14:14-15  (NKJV)

Job was a godly man, but was severely tried, so much so that he wished he had died the moment he was born, “May the day perish on which I was born…” (Job 3:3). What was the cause of this lamentation that he deplored his life? If you read the account of the loss of his possessions and the death of his ten children who perished in the storm in one day, you may understand his plight. On top of this he was plagued by Satan with painful boils. To which his three friends added salt to his wounds.

But in his heart he trusted God, saying, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” (Job 13:15) and “For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God…” (Job 19:25-26).

There is fear of death, but through Jesus we have assurance: ‘Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.’ (Heb 2:14-15)

Death cannot separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. He died to give us eternal life. Our present life is transitory but through the resurrection we will be with Jesus for all eternity in a glorified body.

This is our hope and faith in Lord Jesus. I have written this remembering Mr Frank Archer, a close friend and brother in Christ, who died on 18th of February 2021. He knew his Redeemer and died in faith awaiting the coming of the Lord in His glory.

Father in heaven thank You for this assurance of a new life of glory through Your Son. Blessed be Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
