Faithful One

But the LORD is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
2 Thessalonians 3:3 ( ESV)

One of my favourite hymns is Brian Doerksen’s Faithful One as sung by Robin Mark. You can listen to it on YouTube. Part of the lyrics are: All through the storms Your love is the anchor. My hope is in You alone. Jesus is the faithful One, which means that we can trust him completely.

As we go through life, we will experience storms or challenging situations. On our behalf, Jesus also experienced many storms and challenging situations! It is comforting to know that during our ‘storms’ Jesus Christ is our anchor: ‘We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain…’ (Hebrews 6:19)

We can all place our trust in the One who gave his very life in order to save us and bring us home to the Father. We are to reject the human tendency to trust in ourselves or only in what we can see, as we read in Proverbs 3:5: ‘Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.’ Because Jesus is the faithful One, nothing can or will happen to us without him knowing about it. And whatever happens to us is what God allows and is for our ultimate benefit. He is forming the very image of the beloved Son in each of us (Galatians 4:19), and that is no easy task – to have Christ formed in us!

So the trials of life, the challenges that we face, the temptations and even our adverse health conditions, have an overriding purpose: God is creating shining jewels for his kingdom. We would be astonished if we could see the finished person!

When we look at ourselves or other Christians, we may not appear to be much, and we may seem rather insignificant. But God who loves and cares for us can see the end result of his work in each of us. He knows our potential. And because Jesus’s faithfulness is at work in us, our potential will be fully realised.

Prayer
Eternal Father, thank you for the amazing work that you are doing in me, forming the image of Jesus, please help me to put my trust completely in you. Amen
