Secure in Christ!

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Jude vv.24-25 (KJV)

We all like guarantees, don’t we? When we buy a new appliance, we are assured that the guarantee covers us against any defect or failure, so we can have peace of mind for the duration of the surety. That is a very comfortable feeling. You know, Christians have the most amazing guarantee that ever existed. The writer to the Hebrews tells us in his letter, that Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22 NIV). He informs us that Jesus himself has become the surety of this new and everlasting covenant that we have with God; it has been made between a pardoning God and an obedient and forgiven people.

With him as our security we can dare to do great things for our God. The knowledge that he intercedes for us as our Great High Priest with the power of an endless life and is able to save us completely, has got to be totally reassuring for us (Hebrews 7:so we 24-25). Every moment he lives to pray. Every moment he lives to bless. Moment by moment he goes before the Throne of Glory on our behalf –  so we can trust him. Even when we are unfaithful, he is faithful; even when we are not his friend, he is always ours.

A lady called Dinah Craik has written about being a friend this way:

Oh the comfort—the inexpressible comfort, of feeling safe with a person—having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.

Prayer
Jesus, our amazing Friend and Saviour, praise and thanks be to you! Amen.
