Out of the mouths of babes
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV)
This scripture encourages those who are young in age, but also young in their faith, to speak up for Jesus, to share their love of God and to witness to those around them.
Perhaps like me, when you think of young believers, you think of teenagers or young adults – naturally. This evening, my six year old son Digby told me that he was talking about Jesus at school when a friend of his said, ‘Who is Jesus?’ Digby then went on to tell me that some people don’t even know who Jesus is! Sadly, I already know this and he is just learning it. However, I was keen to know what Digby’s response was and so I asked him what he had said. He replied, ‘I just said, Jesus is God – because He is.’
A proud moment for me, but also a lesson from the scripture above. When speaking of youth this scripture can really mean children of any age, who, once they understand who God is, can share that with others, and they do!
Prayer
Amazing God, thank you so much for our children who teach us so much about faith, hope and love. May we be more like them in how we love and serve you and in how we are witnesses of you. Amen
