Waiting game

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!
Psalm 27:14. (NKJV)

If you observe the behaviour of people, you will find nobody likes to wait. Our present generation is called the ‘Now Generation’. Instant gratification, instant success, is the motivator. But God is not in a hurry. He existed in eternity before He created the heavens, the earth and time. He is not limited by time or confined by space.

During humankind’s existence on the earth many civilizations and kingdoms have come and gone and failed to achieve the utopia which philosophers have envisaged. Unfortunately we are in a mess even to this day, in spite of an explosion of knowledge in various fields.

The present reality is that we are living in perilous times, facing wars, famines, diseases, and natural disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes in different places; many of these are now attributed to climate change. However, all is not lost; in Psalm 37:7 we read, ‘Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret…’ And in Romans 8:19, 22 it is revealed, ‘For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God…For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.’

God’s timing is perfect. Are we prepared to wait patiently for the Lord? He has given us assurance of salvation: ‘…so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.’ (Hebrews 9:28).

Our salvation is nearer than we think and it is assured in Christ. We are longing for the glory that shall be revealed in us when Christ comes in His glory, and we will be with Him forever. Let us not fret in any way but trust the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

Prayer
Abba Father , I thank you for being patient with our frailties, assuring us our waiting will soon be over at the coming of our Saviour. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
