The Enabler

It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has
commissioned us…
2 Corinthians 1:21 (NLT)

It is five years since my husband died, years filled with time for reflection and thanksgiving amidst the other emotions. One quality that I remember with gratitude is how much my husband enabled me to achieve personal goals and sometimes dreams that he encouraged to become reality. On occasion I would express a desire to do something, ‘It must be nice to be able to do that,’ and there he was either making it possible or finding a way for me to do it. Sometimes it was not a goal, just a wish to be better at something or to overcome a bad habit. He was there to encourage and motivate. He was my enabler.
As Christians our greatest aspiration should be to become more like our heavenly Father. This is an impossible task on our own, but we are not on our own. We find in John 14: 16-17: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.” (NIV)
We have the absolute Enabler – Jesus Christ. He died and rose again, enabling us to have eternal life. Then as He left this earth, He sent the Holy Spirit to continue that enabling.
Our Saviour tells us how much He loves to give gifts to us – to enable us to do His will: “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11)
Do we talk to our Father and tell Him of our fears, our hopes, our dreams? He knows them already, but He wants us to share them with Him.
The greatest aspiration we can have is to be like our heavenly Father – He is waiting to hear from us to enable us to do great things according to His will.

Wonderful Father God, please accept our humble heartfelt thanks for all you have done for us and all that you want to do for us. You are our Enabler and we are so thankful. Amen
