Justice for all

Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.
Isaiah 30:18 (NKJV)

Where is justice today? Go to the corners of this earth and you will find injustice. There are rich that suppress the poor and the needy, and those who get away with crimes through bribery. Even in the courts of the world there are biases, bribes and various other ways of abusing justice.

I was born in India where there is the classic caste system; the higher caste look down upon the lower caste people. I hated it and in my own way tried to love all people, and now I have the help of the Lord to love people of all nations and different backgrounds. Mr Gandhi called the lower caste people Harijans, which means the children of God. But the injustice still exists. Some progress is sometimes made through legislation, but no one can change the deep rooted biases in hearts from many generations.

Only God is just; he who loves justice says, “For I, the LORD, love justice…I will direct their work in truth, And make with them an everlasting covenant.” (Isaiah 61:8). Israel was the nation God chose to be a light and show justice to the nations around them but they failed miserably to fulfil God’s ideal. We read in Isaiah 59:14-15: ‘Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter.’ And through Zechariah God says, ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor.’ (Zechariah 7:9-10).

King Nebuchadnezzar extolled and gave honour and praise to the King of heaven, recognizing all of his works are truth and all his ways just (Daniel 4:37). Indeed, no one, other than God, can bring justice to all nations of the world. We look to Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, as the one who brings true justice into the world. And we look forward to the time of his second coming, when he will judge all the nations with justice and in righteousness and truth.

Mankind has rejected God and does not know the way of peace and justice, which is Jesus Christ the Prince of peace; he has fulfilled all the law. Peruse through the shelves of law books in the courts of the world and there is no end of legislation – they have this or that precedent and base justice accordingly.

I groan and cry because of humanity’s injustice, and with all my being pray for his kingdom to come and his will to be done on this earth – then there will be justice for all.

Prayer
Abba Father, God of grace and mercy and justice, please send our Saviour quickly to bring an end to all evil by showing forth Your power to usher in Your Kingdom. My prayer is in Jesus’ name, Amen.
