Do I know my God?

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)

According to the scripture above, God wants us to know Him as God. In his priestly prayer Jesus also desired that we may know his Father: ‘And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.’ (John 17:3). The Lord Jesus wants us to know himself also. Paul wrote to the Philippians: ‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…’ (Philippians 2:5). Also, Peter encourages us to ‘…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.’ (2 Peter 3:18).

The Prophet Jeremiah also tells us to seek God with all our hearts: ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.’ (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

There was a time when I was without Christ, without God and without hope. But God brought me to Jesus and the Holy Spirit enlightened my eyes to see Jesus by faith and to see the Father through the Lord Jesus.

We are given assurance that the Holy Spirit dwells in us. 1 Corinthians 3:16 tells us: ‘Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?’ Also in chapter 6:19: ‘…do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?’

I believe the scriptures with all my heart, and with confidence I declare that I know my God. He is Almighty Jehovah who is omnipotent, omnipresent and the omniscient Sovereign who rules supreme in heaven and on the earth. Also I know my Saviour Jesus Christ my Redeemer, who is alive and, as the High Priest, makes intercession on my behalf to the Father,

God is love. He has demonstrated his love for mankind by sending his begotten Son to die for us; the Son who willingly became sin on our behalf and reconciled us to the Father through his death on the cross. God is one, yet has revealed himself as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I know my God and I desire to know him ever more intimately.

Prayer
Abba Father, it is you who works in my life and in the life of the brethren whom you have called to serve You. We need your help to glorify your name; may you be exalted among the nations and in the earth. This I pray in the name of your Son Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
