The forever house

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)

My son and his wife have recently moved house and are busy making changes, interior and exterior. While discussing their plans my daughter-in-law told me that one of her friends had described the new house as a ‘forever house’ to which my daughter-in-law wisely responded that no house is forever.

I remember thinking, when she told me of the conversation, how true her statement was; life and circumstances are constantly changing. Although everyone makes plans, often they must be altered due to changing situations. As the maxim declares, ‘there is nothing as permanent as change’. Our climate has changed. Our cultures change. People change too – positively and negatively.

Is there anything in life that is permanent and unchanging – something that can be totally relied upon? In Hebrews 13:8 we read that ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ He is our absolute – He is solid in His promises. He has promised never to leave us, no matter what the circumstances, (Matthew 28:20).

One promise that gives me comfort and encouragement does refer to a ‘forever house’. It is found in John 14:2: “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

My future is assured, and I won’t have to renovate or decorate! It will literally be out of this world. Now that is something to look forward to!

Prayer
Wonderful Father, I look forward so much to spending eternity with you, thank you for the comfort and hope you give in this world of sorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
