A Word With You Please!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:1 (NIV)

These words, “A word with you, please,” have the power to strike terror in an individual’s heart.  They are generally used by figures of authority who demand your attention.  Too frequently they imply one is in trouble of some description.  They can come via a letter, a phone call or in person—whatever the route, they are not what you want to hear.  The reprimand can be forthright and on occasion hurtful.  We are assured they are for our own good, but at the time it does not feel very good.

There is one particular Word that heals, is merciful, forgives and loves.  That Word is to be found in the scripture above, John 1:1.  This Word is Jesus Christ the Son of God.  He is God in text.  He speaks to us through His Word. Jesus knows every fibre of our being and accesses it through His Word. Through His word we grow in grace and in knowledge.  Hebrews 4:12 advises, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

This dynamic medium that we call the Holy Bible, exists for our spiritual survival, Many have died so that we have it today.  Within the Bible we have the words of life.  We have no need to fear them—just be grateful.

Prayer
Thank you, wonderful God, for your Son, whose word is life. Thank you that we have your Word, the Bible, today.  We give humble thanks for those who died assuring its survival.
Amen
