I will Be With You

“For the Lord watches over the path of the godly.”

Psalm 1:6 (NLT)

One of God’s most frequent promises in the Bible is: “I will be with you.”  He told Jacob: “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.” (Genesis 28:15 NIV)

God told Israel in Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV): “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God.”  Verse 13 continues: “For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”

God is always active in our lives whether we know it or not.  He is interested in every part of our lives, and says in Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV): “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1 NKJV).  This short Psalm (eleven verses) tells us four times that God is with us.  We are His people; the sheep of His pasture (Psalm 100:3), and the Good Shepherd never leaves his sheep.

David said: “I know the Lord is always with me.  I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.”  (Psalm 16:8 NLT).  In Psalm 37:25 (KJV) he says: “I have been young and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”

Especially when God gives you a job to do he promises to be with you.  He told Joshua: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5 NKJV).  God promised to be with Jeremiah and take care of him.  Even though Jeremiah had many terrible trials, including being imprisoned in a dungeon, God was with him and sent help (Jeremiah 38:6-10 NKJV).  The book of Jeremiah tells us that God reassured Jeremiah six times that he was with him (Jeremiah 1:8, 19; 15:20; 20:11; 46:28).

No matter where we are, either in the sky, the sea or on the earth, “Even there shall your hand lead me and your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:7-10 NKJV).  How close is that!

Even when we behave foolishly we still belong to God, and in Psalm 73:23-24 (NLT) it says, “…You hold my right hand.  You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.”

Finally in Matthew 28:20 (KJV), God reassures us:   “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  God is with us- we are not alone.

Prayer

Thank you, Father, for the promise that you will be with us.  Please help me never to forget this no matter what happens to me.

Amen
