There’s Still Time!

“But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.”
2 Peter 3:9 (NCV)

Prior to the Christmas break I received a mail order catalogue with an inserted coupon tempting me with 10% off and assuring me that “There’s still time to find the perfect gift.”

Now that Christmas has been and gone, hopefully, I can also encourage you with those same words—“You can still get a special gift—it’s not too late!” Nor will it ever be too late; the Father of all mercies will never send anyone away, who comes to him through Jesus.

Jesus backed this thought up when he issued this invitation; “Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives” (Matthew 11:28-29).

This invitation is an echo of scriptures in the Old Testament. For example, Isaiah 55:1-3 (NLT 1996), “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good! Listen and I will tell you where to get food that is good for the soul. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, for the life of your soul is at stake.”

So, let me ask you; are you burdened? Are you thirsty for a quality way of life reconnected to your Father? I believe that those two questions are well worth considering and taking some quiet time to come up with the answers.

As we remembered a Babe in a manger, it is worth looking at one final scripture and here it is; “Thank God for his Son—his gift too wonderful for words!” (2 Corinthians 9:15 TLB). It’s not too late, he is always there for you!

Father, thank you that you are always waiting and watching excitedly and eagerly for us to come home to you; that you long to run to meet us and enfold us in your arms of grace.
