‘Shhhhhhh’!

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJ)

A Sunday school teacher asked her children, as they were on the way to church service, “And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?”  One bright little girl replied, “Because people are sleeping!”

This is a humorous story, but one which addresses one of the issues in today’s Church Services.  One of the Reasons we go to church is to hear a message from God’s Word, but what if the preacher or the subject is boring?

If the delivery of the message seems boring to us, we can still listen intently for God to speak to us through His Servant/Messenger (the preacher) who points us to the Words of God.  There is almost always a thought or Word we can take away that will be of help to us if we look and listen for it.

We can also pray for the speaker that they will improve their delivery, or that they might become so passionate about what they are imparting that their delivery will become animated and more interesting.

Repetition is one of the best forms of emphasis.  No matter how many times we have heard something before, we need reminding.  No matter how many times we have heard something before, we can still sometimes experience an ‘aha’ moment when something clicks and becomes clear.  No matter how many times we have heard something before, we can still patiently listen so that someone else can hear who may not have heard before.

We need to make sure that the fault does not lie with us because of late nights and partying!  We need to come to church prepared to hear the Word.

Instead of criticizing, why not consider preparing a message or presentation yourself?  This way a future service could be more interesting to others–or perhaps you may find that it is not as easy as you thought and you might become more tolerant!

Prayer

We are so blessed to have free access to Bibles, and freedom to meet and hear Bible messages in peace and safety.   Help me to show by my attentiveness at Church, Father in Heaven, how much I value hearing Your Word expounded.

Amen
