Eating With God?

“…they saw God, and they ate and drank.”
Exodus 24:11 (NIV)

What would it be like to eat with God?  The scripture above is the story about a meal with God, and those participating were Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel.  You can read about this repast in Exodus 24:1-12.

Wow! How great would that be? What a privilege! I’m sure those guys bored their grandkids silly with that story: you know how it goes, “Did I ever tell you about the time…?” “Yes, granddad!”

But you know, all of us will eat with God at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb—the great feast promised by our Father and our Lord that will take place after his return. In Middle Eastern culture eating a meal together was symbolic of sharing life, of forgiveness, honour, reconciliation and fellowship.

The apostle John who wrote the book of Revelation records a vision: “Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a huge crowd, or the roar of mighty ocean waves, or the crash of loud thunder. ‘Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice and honour him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.’  For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.  And the angel said, ‘Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.’ And he added, ‘These are true words that come from God.’” (Revelation 19:6-9 NLT).  We are reading here about the call to those who have been invited to this amazing feast, those who will sit down and eat with God! Then we will understand just how those men felt when they ate with him on Mount Sinai.

But there is another surprise for us as we read about this incredible supper. Jesus gave a parable about those who wait for his return and said: “There will be a special favour for those who are ready and waiting for his return. I tell you, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!” (Luke 12: 37 NLT).

Are you looking forward to that?  I am!

Thank you, Lord, for everything you have planned for your return to this planet in great power and glory as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We are waiting—“Come Lord Jesus!”
