Life is Too Short…

“And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”
Acts 17:25 (NIV)

We have taken a stand, refusing to accept the other point of view, however we do have a suspicion that they might be right but it is too late to do anything…the impasse continues. Pride blinds us to our mistakes and obduracy prevents us from admitting them even if we do see them. This is the breeding ground for feuds and long lasting conflict. Often we realise too late that life is too short for such altercations—can we even remember what the cause was?

Life is a gift as is shown in Acts 17:25 quoted above. Life is also fleeting. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 90:10, “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.”

In Luke 12:18–21 Jesus warns us about taking life for granted and ignoring God. Life is too short and we as Christians must get our priorities right. In Psalm 150 we are exhorted to praise God in all we do—because life is too short let’s be sure to follow that advice.

A postscript is that life as a Christian is not short at all, but forever. John 3:15 tells us “that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” The joy of living with our Father is our inheritance, thanks to One whose life was cut short for our sake. Let us live to honour Him and put aside trivial grievances.

Prayer
Father we thank you for the hope we have in you, forgive us for our foolish pride and help us by the power of the Holy Spirit to live each day to glorify you.
Amen
